Hello Trevor,

Thank you for contacting eBay Customer Service about search for US cars on the eBay site. I have read your message and understand you are trying to view the eBay Motors site and that you are unable to view listings. I appreciate you taking the time to contact us so I can explain how our Motors Program works.

We know how you feel, if this has alarmed you a bit, searching for items and most of them not showing up on your search page. We are not trying to drop anything on some bucket here and tell you, you can no longer buy eBay cars. And of course this restriction is not only on New Zealand members alone, but for International buyers. But I’ll explain more.

eBay Motors is a program that allows our members to buy and sell vehicles. However, the protection program is limited to our members in the United States and Canada only, at this time. The costs of shipping a vehicle internationally are prohibitive, and could cost more than the vehicle. Additionally, most vehicles are not shipped, the buyer picks the car up, or the seller delivers it to them. If these US sellers are not shipping to international buyers, or wouldn't want their vehicles available to international buyers, then we really cannot knock ont heir doors and force them to do so. I hope you understand.

Normally, what we did before was about rebooting refreshing browser cache. Browser cookie issues normally won't affect page upload, but a full or corrupt browser cache can be a problem. Try refreshing the page and uploading the page again. If the page still won't upload, clear your cache. Then, try to upload the page again from a new browser window. I've tried these while using a German account, and it worked, you should do the same.

Trevor, I understand you really wanted the vehicle and pick it up in the US. So here's how the rule works:

1. If you live in Europe/ New Zealand and wanted to purchase any vehicle in the US, as long as you and the seller agree on a pick up, then you're good to go (you need to be in the US to pay and inspect the vehicle). Remember that most US sellers will never do freight shipping for vintage or high valued cars. They would always want the buyer to pick it up. If they want this preference, then it's their discretion, eBay cannot do anything.

2. Most sellers require you to pay $500.00 as a deposit, confirming you are one interested buyer. (This is not refundable)

3. Vehicle purchase Protection programs won't work with international buyers. So make sure to bring any trusted appraisers, technicians and vintage car experts with you when you inspect the vehicle. At least before you pay, you are assured that the vehicle matches your expectations.

4. If you really are interested in American cars, and the eBay site oftentimes block your search on these vehicles, here's a quick solution:

Temporarily change your address to any US address, or create a new account using a US address (if you have a second address in the US, or borrow a relative's address, or a business address -it will work), Then you can view vehicles with ease.

Specifically, the independent service provider that offers protection for vehicle protection, or Vehicle Purchase Program (VPP) only protects transactions where the seller, buyer, and vehicle are all located in the US or Canada. Since buying a vehicle internationally would not be protected, we do not encourage our buyers to purchase in such a manner. This is why we do not allow you to see that listings, simply because we cannot promote sales that are not protected. But please review the hints above. You need to be a US buyer to be protected.

For more information concerning VPP, here is a great link: http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/buy/purchase-protection/index.html

As you know, our sellers offer literally thousands of items for sale on eBay, so we encourage you to browse the listings on eBay. I am confident you will find many items you wish to purchase and are available to your area. We have customized our site so your search results are automatically filtered so you won't search for items that can be shipped to you; it is already done for you! We work hard to make eBay as user-friendly as possible, and we hope you'll enjoy using the site

Again, thank you for contacting us. We look forward to your purchase and I know you'll be an asset to our online community.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and business. We truly appreciate you as one of our valued customers.

Sincerely,

John L.

Trevor, I defaulted my delivery address to my sister-in-laws in Montana and now I can search and actually see Hudson cars and also an eccentric spanner that was previously blocked for some strange reason!...... or maybe they took heed to your letters and made a change?????
