Sad News From the Pennsylvania Dutch Chapter H.E.T.
Cliff Minard, long time H.E.T. member and Pennsylvania Dutch Chapter member, was involved in an auto accident this morning but did not make it. Dad joined the club only a year or two after the club began, and has been active right along. He will be missed by all that knew him.

When I was young, I attended the 1970 Nation meet in Towson, MD. There I saw an interesting car trying to leave the car line up at the shopping center. Traffic was heavy and the driver waited patently for a break in traffic... well sort of. When a small opening came along, the driver stomped on the accelerator, lit up the tires and pulled out into traffic leaving the other cars behind. Later, when I checked around to see what the car was and who it belonged to I found it belonged to Cliff and it was a 54 Hornet. Cliff spent some time talking about and showing me the car. I decided one day I would have such a car...and I do.
Years later, his son, Allan, and I became good friends. While attending a family function at Allan's house I relayed the story to Cliff. He had forgotten the incident as it was insignificant to him; just another day in his Hudson life. But I really appreciated the way he talked to a young guy about his car and I told him so. By this time I had been active in the HET club for more than 30 years, been a National meet coordinator, chapter president, technical advisor, WTN contributor and done more things for the club than I could count..... and he never knew that he was one of 2 people I credited with my involvement. When I told him, he was surprised. He never dreamed he could have had such an impact on a kid. He just figured he would talk Hudson to anyone who would ask. He never pushed it one you, he just talked. I'll miss him. ... and I'm glad I knew him.
Allan, we are sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

This is sad. On my first Eastern Regional meet in Albany N.Y. in 2011, we had to ask a lift to those who had a Hudson for a drive to the Saratoga Museum. I had the chance to ride with Cliff in his 54 Hornet. What a ride. Will never forget it. Very nice man that I met a few times after.
To Alan and family, you have my deepest sympathy. Michel0 -
Distressed to hear, he was a great guy.

Allan, I am so sorry that Cliff has passed. Your father's fine example of being a "real gentleman" has always inspired me try to be like him. Just like EssexAdv, Cliff showed interest in me as a 17yr old and getting me started as a life long Hudson person. I remember how he was so happy to see that I finally had a 1937 Hudson.0

First time we met Cliff was at the LosAngeles airport, prior to going to Australia. Cliff made us feel welcome, we were the only ones from Alabama. We did see him at several national/international meets later and at Pigeon Forge, will miss him, he was well thought of. Bob & Betty Parks0

We were so saddened to hear of Cliff's passing. We really enjoyed the times we spent with him.
At Doc's Meet last year, when we brought our '54, Cliff and Ted enjoyed talking about their '54's, and their love for them. I spent time with him in the hospitality room at Gettysburg. He was truly a gentleman, and will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to your family. You are all in our prayers. The Hudson club has lost a beloved and valued member. The last message we had from Cliff, a true gentleman with a twinkle in his eye who we met just a mere two months ago in Hershey as he proudly sat behind Alan's '38 Hudson, was "When ya gonna join the Club?" We just did -- today -- and checked in to see what was happening on the forum. Such sad sad news. Cliff, Allan and Janet, Allan's wife, were our seatmates at the Hudson dinner gathering in Carlisle where we shared life stories and enjoyed their company immensely. Cliff in particular had a fondness for Harny's straw hat. We knew the next time we crossed paths "Hudsonly" Cliff would have a new cap to wear.
Lovely man indeed!
Warmth & rainbows to the Minard family.

I was coming home from the Pittsburg national through PA on Rt 220 with the 49 C and running about as fast as I wanted to when I noticed a car way back in my mirror, then noticed it was a 54 Hudson. The grill got bigger and bigger until it had caught up to me so I pulled over in a turnout and stopped. So did the Hornet. Cliff got out, and although we hadn't been acquainted before, we had a great time talking about the meet and Hudsons, then ran together until I turned N into NYS. My condolences Allan. We have to remember the good times when we loose our dads.0
