1936 Heater Installation

I'm trying to put in a factory 1936 "deluxe" heater in a 1936 Terraplane. Where does it go, under the glove box, or below the center of the dash? Also, does any location prohibit or impede the radio, especially when the left glove box door is opened for the defrost? All I have to go on is a small picture in a factory brochue, and would like to put it in as original. Thanks for any help.

  • Hi---Heater goes on the right side under the glove box, same as my 37 Hudson. Are you restoring to original specs.?

You'll find two "knockout" plugs of about 1" diameter stamped into the firewall on the right side. If it's really a '36 heater you have, its pipe position and spacing should match up with these knockouts. The radio main box goes behind that left "glove box" door, so it doesn't interfere at all with the heater.
  • The heater looks exactly like the one in the 1936 T road test in Hemings book of Hudsons, on page 33, including the little defroster vent that comes up from the left glove-box door. However, my knock-outs do not align with the holes. Also, there are only 2 knock-outs, diagonally, but 4 holes are necessary, two for the hoses, and 2 for the carriage bolts that hold the heater on. Any advice? Thanks.

Darn ... wish I still had my '36 here (in more ways than one!) Will look for a photo that shows something useful.
