help with rear fenders
Hello everyone I have just joined. I found your site and thought where else to get info than a Hudson site! Any a few years ago I took off the rear fenders on my 1953 Hudson Hornet 4 Door as a start to rebuild the car. Well now I have time and guees what , I cant get them back on! I have the upper bolts or screws in and have it fitting good down the door jamb and the bumper or fender ext. fits good but where Im having trouble is at the frame along the bottom of the fender. Is there a peice that fits between the fender and the frame or does the fender bolt tight to the frame?? As I look at the ext. at the back the fender sites nice but it seems that if I bolt it to the frame it seems to buckle abit. And with the bolts there the fender skirt many not fit. I have a problem could someome help me? Thanks Mark

There's a 1/4" thick fiberboard (?) strip that goes between fender and frame in the area over the wheel wells. Screws for the fender skirt brackets go through this material ... it doesn't extend fore and aft much beyond those brackets. Forward of the wheel wells, the fender bolts mainly to the rocker panel ... maybe only a couple of screws just forward of the wheel well actually go into the frame. (Sorry I can't be more specific ... it's been a while! Some of the other folks can be more specific.)0

you need a piece of fibre board 1/4 inch thick and 9/18 inches high about 30 inches long that will go between bottom of fender and against the frame, your skirt mounts will hang on inside with two small mounting bolts and nuts as well as the screws that hold on retainer for mounting painted molding. have done hundreds of these, this molding is critical to get smooth panel to paint, specially on two doors, DI stock these but you can get a sheet of material from local hardware and cut them out with a table saw. Thanks for the info, I also have been wondering about that and always seem to forget to ask when I am around the Hudsonites. I used some washers to space my 51 Pacemaker coupe fenders, but it is not correct. I knew something had to be there but was unsure if it was a moulded piece or???? It was missing when I bought the car and the stainelss trim was off also.
Thanks, JSpencer0
