What a wonderful gift idea for Christmas. Four stepdown convertibles and a very nice 40 convert. But, if you are buying me a Christmas gift spring for the 52 Brougham. For me, it is the pick of the litter....

what do you guys think of the '40 conv.? The uph. is of course all wrong but it has 2 jump seats - is that "kosher" for a '40 conv., I thought if a conv. brougham it would have a bench seat. And how as it has rear seats the top is wrong as should have windows on the side; only conv. coupes had a "blanked out" top like on this car.
I see it has the 1st yr. '40 turn signals, o.d. I assume not.
Rare car, but
Gads is that uph. UGLY, LOL.0 -
post the links please
thanks

Yes, bad choice of material for the seats and interior. But, that is only about a $1,000 change if you do not like it. The price seems about right but to high for my collection.0 -
Yeah, that vinyl seat material belongs on a seat in a cafe in the 50s. also the added fender lights are scooted back about 3 inches, giving them a strange "bend" in the middle. The top on a broughm should have plastic side windows, shouldnt it?0
-
Yes, should have the plastic quarter windows. Nice car, but I'm in agreement on the general consensus of the interior. :-&0

thanks for posting the link
ditto to RL
what a shame
otherwise would have been a nice convertible0 -
Here's the step-downs:

Hey guys, the '40 Deluxe (short WB) convertabledid not have room for a side to side rear seat, so they used the "Jump Seat" idea from the Victory Coupe. This model did not use the plastic rear quarter windows0
-
You're right, Jerry. I just looked it up in Butler's. I never realized it because that picture is somewhat in heavy shadow. I wrongfully assumed all the cars with the extra back seats (the broughams) had the plastic quarter windows. Riding in the back of that car would be like riding in the back of a '40 Ford, where you can't see anything except straight ahead.
I love learning new tidbits about these great cars!0 -
That's still an ugly vinyl in that car, though.0
-
Brownie, I to like the 52 Pacemaker. Noticed though it has a 53 hood (or Ornament) on it and someone installed Commodore tailights above originals. probably not bad for safety reasons.
I do like the car however and the price seems reasonable if it is as represented.

53 - thank you for the enlightenment.0
-
Why does that 52 Pacemaker have two sets of taillights? Is that the way they were made?0
-
On the '40 fender lamps it is really quite simple: '41-47 lamps DO NOT FIT the curvature of the '40 fender !
OMG the weirdly mottled vinyl is TERRIBLE.0 -
Jason-
I guess it's a "belt and suspenders" kind of thing. Typically, when you put the upgraded Senior car taillights on a junior model, you eliminate your standard taillights, but hey, I guess it's the more the merrier! Looks pretty funky to me.0 -
Why do people and dealers say a car is restored with a paint job? I think somebody is dreaming on that '52 pacemaker. No interior pictures, '53 hood ornament, different tailights. Looks nice in the picture, but they want way to much for it. My opinion. Arnie in Nevada.0
-
"Restored" is a term that can mean anything from "Throw the floor mats over the windows and paint it" to a full and total disassembly and correct reassembly. Often it is misused to describe an "Updated" and/or "modified" car.0
-
as is the word "Classic", certainly the most over & misused word in automotive linguistics!0
-
Hudson rules - If you go to the ebay listing, and run your mouse over the pic of the left side of the car, it will magnify it and then right click, you will find considerably more pictures of the cars exterior as well as the interior and the elaborate trunk upholstery installed. They went to a lot of effort to enhance the desire for this car!0

I see the '29 H Victoria back in again; sure like the '29 H cp. Yellow '50 C conv. looks great too, lot of Hudson "iron" on eBay right now + some hot-rodded junque ~0
