Wire harness install

Mine came from Narragansette. Good people to deal with, good delivery time, all correct colors, understandable complete instructions and all fits as it should. Good response on questions as well.
That's where I'll go if I need another.

Narragansette doesn't show a body to the tail lights for a hardtop either. Why do these companies make them for convertibles which was a small percent as compared to the hard tops?0
-
nobody has provided them a core harness to copy.0

Chris is right. The '50C8 wiring Rhode Island lists was copied from my harness back in '86. They use the factory wiring diagrams for the colors since many of the old ones are faded, but they need an original for the length, wire size, connector type, etc. Send them yours and you will get a new one back, copied from yours.0

I understand that. The thing I can't believe is that someone hasn't done one already. There are a lot more hardtops/sedans out there than the others.0

Chris,
Where are you located? You said you went to Y and Z. I don't know what model you have but the response I got from Scott there said they can make anything you want. Why didn't you just take your harness out there for them to copy?0 -
I am in Bloomington CA maybe 15 miles form YnZ. My car had a home made harness in it when I bought it so I did not have an original to copy. I have a 54 Club Coupe.0

Chris, the wire going to the starter solenoid is the wire that needs to pass thru the neutral safety first. When adjust correctly,it only allows current to pass thru when neutral is selected. Reverse lights were optional and are a separate harness. these are easily installed, powered from the neutral safety switch. These connect to the 2 brass post -# 2 and # 4 ]on your picture. If you don't have one, you need to purchase a simple continutiy tester that has a tone that sounds when connection is made. This meter/tool will help you identify wires and where they go. I know this can be confusing but hang in there. Hope this helps, CG0

Bloomington would be pretty close to them. I am in Long Beach so they are in striking distance but not exactly around the corner like you. Mine is a stick with no rear courtesy lights so even if I bought a 52 harness I would have a bunch of stuff I don't need. I think I would need a sedan harness with the Brougham roof. I think with the shorter curve of a club coupe roof I would come up short before getting to the trunk space0

Chris, The gentleman I have been corresponding with at YnZ pulled your order and here is what he said ; I have an order for a 1954 Hudson Hornet Club Coupe for a Chris Smith back in 2009. The order states to build a 1953 Club coupe taillight harness with rear quarter and courtesy lights per Chris. Nothing about changing ends to 1954. Brougham cars usually have more light/ acc. circuits.
Without putting an earlier car next to my 54, I am not sure how much I would have to change. I would assume they just need to be lengthened to reach the lights at the higher position.0 -
I took my turn signal switch and tail light ends to them and they wired and soldered them up for me. Maybe they did not make note of that or charge me extra?. If your club sedan still has the original harness from the a pillar back in place, they would make an exact duplicate for you. You would have to remove it and send or take it to them. Going forward they would then have the pattern for the 54 club sedan.0

An alternative to a complete pre-wired harness is American Autowire's Nostalgia series. I bought highway 15. the loom wires look beautiful. and it is already set up with modern fuses and intended for 12V just like my project. Will require a lot more DIY wiring, though, but at a fraction of the cost of a YNZ

Chris, they offered 10% off to duplicate mine, I was hoping for a little more than that as it appears they would have the only 54 kit but I guess something is better than nothing.0
