Has anybody had any experience with the 6 volt Battery Butler tender storage charger, I have just purchesed a new battery and want to keep it up to charge  the car is not used daily. These are sold in the USA and not availble in Australia. Any help appreciated.

  • Astounding that they're not available in Australia!

I'm not acquainted with the Battery Butler brand, but battery tenders are very common here in America, and many people use them.  Even the new ones still have provision for either 6 or 12 volts.  (The latest one I bought doesn't even have a selector switch.  It senses whether the battery is 6 or 12.)   They sell for about $20 here in the States.
  • I bought mine a couple years back for $20.00 @ autozone
  • have about 6 on various vehicles. I'm a firm believer they make the difference. Especially when battery prices have gone ballistic.

  • That's for sure cvs I used to replace them and not give it much thought.  Now I'm more interested in maintaining them so I won't have to buy another at 80-100$ or so.Stuff adds up.

Some years ago I bought one of these devises. It is like a largish cell phone charger. I have it for use on the Essex and works well. I have a plug wired in under the dash out of view and just plug this into it when the car is parked up for a while.

Recently I found I have a similar devise from a portable phone or such like. It has the same plug type, is 6 volt with 500ma output. Is there any reason why I could not / should not use this on my other Essex? Would it be detrimental to the battery's life?
