A recent thread introduced the new Hornet concept car by Chrysler. I just found a picture of the concept car GM has done for Holden down under.

Am I the only one who notices this? But it looks like a '53 stepdown and a '46/'47 Hudson cross breed. I really like this car, and if you don't see some kind of Hudson influence - get out your Butler book and take another look.

Its called the Holden EFIGY. Enjoy.

Chrysler/Daimler should have contracted with this guy to do the new Hornet, I think most of us would be happy.

IT sure has much sexier lines I agree with you I would object a lot less to something like that wearing the "Hornet" name.

Don't know myself - my first impression looks like a 49-50 Merc gone nuts.

  • Nice looking car but doesnt look Hudson-ish to me. No stepdown profile cues. I'd take it home though! Niels
  • Has a resemblance of a "Tucker" from what I can see !

No, it looks like a Pontiac/Olds of the 40s. I like it.

The car is styled after the FJ Holden a 50's Australian GM product which used a 40's Detroit styled body shell that was originally going to be for a small Chev that never was.

Do a search for FJ Holden pictures and you will see where it all came from.

The name is EFIJY, a play on words, FJ - efigy.

It was an after hours project by Holden employees in Melbourne Australia using what was in the parts bin and a fibreglass shell. Its a running fully roadworthy vehicle and came in at around $200k excluding labour.

The EFIJY is doing the Australian car show circuit at the moment and is scheduled for North America and Europe later this year

I thought "48 Buick" when i opened the page. Didn't look Hudson in any way.. But it is gorgeous!
  • This car is sure to be a winner. Both Me, AND my 16yr old daughter like it. Any car that can bridge THAT gap, has to be good.
  • There was a short write-up on this car in Custom Rodder magazine a couple issues ago. A nice car with great styling and drivetrain. Now if they could only make it affordable, I think they would have a good seller there.

  • Just home from Books a Million... favorite read and don't buy strore... A full expose' article on the car appears in the current issue of Rod and Custom. The car is a one off and was built by the stylists who work at GM Australia. The article states these folks hand built the car and are touring it in country to determine the feasiblity of production. If one follows the current resurgence of Custom car mania going on in Australia... (Aka building chars like Crusberry, Barris, Westlock, Windfield and others of the US did in the 50s) the mood is to develop cars like this period car... several Australian Hudsons Stepdowns have become customs bearing similar lines.

BTW same magazine has an article on a 42 Merc Convert restoration of a former custom car ... Our 9X Hudson Designer Steve F's business UNCOMMON ENGINEERING was the source of the newly restored FMCO flathead that powered this piece of history.

    Cheers from the HOT
