1939 Hudson Ute
I was searching the Australian Ebay site and there was a 1939 Hudson Ute posted. Great lines on that thing. Sure wish I could get it over here. Were there a lot of Hudsons exported to other countries? This one was a right hand drive, obviously made for export and the body and bed were unibody, unlike the U.S. models. Sorry I don't know how to post the link.

Same issue, great lines though. Just plain cool. Of course, that's only $1500 US...

And about four grand to get it to a US port, then shipping cross-country on top of that.0

I live 10 miles from a US port, Long Beach. Maybe go and see if I can get the Queen Mary running and go pick it up. I always wanted to visit down under anyways. LOL..Just some Sunday afternoon dreaming, Ron0 -
The 1939-112 ute has been for sale for quite a few years here in Australia, but sadly no takers, you would need deep pockets to get her going again.

It looks like a neat truck with potential though. If I end up moving to NZ maybe I'll look him up.

Rick, the utes are not "cut-up" coupes, they are specifically designed as you see them from new - think of them as El Caminos, but way before their time. They have elements of the pickup bed in them, and in fact share many parts with pickups. GM (Holden), Ford, Chrysler (Fargo), and Studebaker all had Utes from the early days on, with a few even being built now (GM). These are factory-built vehicles for the Aussie/NZ/South Africa markets, NOT conversions or homemade jobs.
There is a '64 Chrysler Valiant ute for sale in Denver that I'd like to get my hands on. It's a very straight little car, and the guy basically wants his importation costs out of it ($4K).0 -
Here's a '38 Terraplane ute, in Australia. To see larger photos go to my Hudson photo album at http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/miscuploads.msnw?Page=10 -
This 39 112 ute is certainly factory. It is built by Ruskin Bodies of Melbourne Australia. Yes it may be different but check out the thread from Huddy42 on Aussie stuff as many of these are unusual. Here you will see a Ruskin bodied 36 Terraplane Sloper utility 2 door in gold, (IT HAS NO BACK SEAT) but a back seat version was available. 37 & 38 sedans you see in these photos are all Ruskin bodied & also this 1946/7 Super Six sedan in burgundy, note the 39 look in the style yet it is built down-under and the 39 112 roadster which was to believed to be a chopped Ruskin bodied coupe. 1934 to 47 Hudson & Terraplane bodies were built in great numbers by Ruskin along with other makes. Ruskin built its first all steel body in 1936 debuting on the Terraplane Chassis yet alot of woodwork was required on the utility up to 1939. A large amount of Ruskin's work was on Hudson's & Terraplanes so when the Stepdown was introduced, Ruskin suffered because of it as the Stepdown bodies were fully imported and assembled in both Melbourne & Sydney. Just of interest a Body builder called OLDING in Sydney built six 1934 Terraplane 4 door Pheatons for the Dalgety & Co HET agent. One of these was exported to America by a HET enthuisist and a couple have survived down under. Olding Co also built the famous 1935 Hudson 8 Special racer which was once owned by Clive Gibson. Clive did his Hudson apprentiship! on the car. Photos of the Olding bodied cars are also found on the thread from Huddy42.
Keep on Hudsoning
