Brake Light Junction Box - Necessary??
SO... in a fit of rage while trying to get the brake lights to work on my '54 Jet, I removed the junction box in the trunk and tried wiring the lights without it. I used the wiring diagram to see how the wires were joined.
Have I screwed myself? Is the junction box necessary? I see where it connects some wires and I tried to duplicate it.
But now I'm thinking I've messed up my wiring and would like to incorporate the junction box back into the brake light system.
Thanks. (and yes, I'm feeling like an idiot as I fight this Hudson back to life)

As the saying goes: ""If it ain't broke, fix it til it is!!""
Don't feel bad, we've all been there & recovered.

There is no need for the junction box. Unless you are worried about originality.. As long as the connections are made correctly. If it works, don't fix it.0

Old adage - if you can fix something until it's broke - you probably will!!!

The junction block (box) is there in case you need to disasemble the wiring. Also so when he car was built it was so the workers could assemble the wiring easier. If you wire around it by splicing the wires together (without quick disconnects) you would have to cut the wires to disasemble. Nicer and more professional to do it correctly.. I have in my life as a mechanic gotten very agrivated at people that did stuff like that and I had to figure it out and repair it. Just sayin.0

I agree. Much easier to trouble shoot if you have the junction box.0
