I need a list of 4cyl. engine numbers, am looking at a roadster which the owner claims is a 1919 year model.
I have a list of serial numbers just needing engine numbers.
I can't find engine numbers in the online library

Thanks Spencer

  • Hi Spencer,
Is that for a girl named Tina..?????
  • Phil Kidd here in NZ (HETprcmk@xtra.co.nz - drop HET etc) has a particular interest in very early Essex 4's & has much dating info on them.
  • Thanks Dave I will contact him.

    Les ?????
  • If anyone can come up with engine numbers for any Hudson product prior to, oh, 1925 please let me know.

    Thank you.

  • Essex engine numbers ran numerically, vaguely following production numbers, but there is no direct correlation with models.
  • Spencer, I was asked the same question a week or so ago by a girl who lived in dare I say Queensland.
  • Only know correlation between serial and engine numbers is in the 1930 - '39 Master Parts catalog.  Essex 6 car number started at 100,000 in 1924, and they were numbered sequentially from thereon.  In 1930 the first   serial number for that year was 1165674, with engine number 1236601, so they made more engines than cars, probably accounted for with the recall and replacement of engines of  the very early 1924 Essex.  Just another bit of useless information.   I have never seen any listing of  4 cylinder engine numbers.  Spencer - do you want me to buy that red Jet and do it up for you?  I could make that my next project!  Les - you going to Stanthorpe??

Not the same this blokes name is John he claims it is 1919 or maybe 1918 it is a roadster that was restored in the early 70's and done 500 miles since he wants way too much for it but maybe we can wear him down.

Sean Mc Cabe is looking into engine numbers for me he said he has info on them so will wait and see.
I will pass on the red Jet thanks.
    Are you coming to Stanthorpe?
  •  Yes, coming to Stanthorpe, Unfortunately not in a Hudson.
  • Good news I am sure we can organize a ride for you and Margaret.
  • Yes Geoff going to Stanthorpe.
