Restoration/parts information, 1954

Was going through my collection of part numbers of parts used in restoring my '54 Hornet and thought the info might be useful to someone.

Brakes:

rear shoes - Bendix No. 55, relined
front shoes - Duro-Bon (Diamond Products) 2015-18, relined
Brake hoses - Raybestos Manhattan 10303  (all stepdowns)
Brake hose - Bendix 88525
Front Wheel cylinders - Bendix 33595 (left), 33596 (right)
Rear wheel cylinders - Bendix 33600 (left), 33601 (right)

Front end:

Tie rod ends - Moog ES-147 R (right), ES-147 L (left)
Upper outer A-frame bushings - Toledo steel 10057
Outer lower bushings - Moog K-42 kit, Monmouth KA134, (both NAPA CK-95)
Front axle grease seal - Chicago rawhide 15655

Rear end:

Rear spring bushing seals - Magic sliders HI-TIPS 97599 (furniture leg), 1 1/8", cut 1/2" sections

Suspension:

Front shock absorber - CAP (Consumer Auto Parts) 82026
Rear shock absorber - Gabriel Guardian 81318
Shock bolt kit - HELP! 31001 (needs brass bushing sleeve on lower pin).

Engine:

Carb choke parts: PerfectParts MT 3UB (includes new cloth insulator, enough for both Twin-H carbs.)
Carb choke parts: PerfectParts MT 2UB (without cloth)
Fan belt (no power) - Gates 7435
Oil Filler cap - NAPA 703-1707

Cooling:

Radiator cap - Gates 31527
Thermostat - Duralast 4248 (remove lower spring assembly to clear head), 180 deg.

Misc.:

Dimmer switch - Fargo Automotive (Counterpart) 24C-11660
PCV valve (if used) - LuberFiner PCV1118 (Autozone), (Adapted to blowby pipe)
Wipers - ANCO 41-02 (complete kit, blades a tad short)


Comments

  • The brake shoe numbers are industry numbers. Any you find that have an 18 should fit the front

    and any 55 should fit the rear. Assuming they are boxed correctly. They usually have a prefix in

    front for the venders number. They also could have 18B or 55B , meaning bonded instead of riveted.

    Have you tried this place?  I have not, nor do I know anything about them, but it's worth some investigation.

    Yes, it's extremely good information.  Sadly, it will gradually fade from memory.  Six months from now, someone will post a message on the forum:  "Didn't someone post a list of '54 Hornet parts interchanges here, a few months ago?"  People will scratch their heads, shrug,  and the question will remain unanswered.  Then all will be forgotten.

    Sometimes someone from WA attends the All California Meet. If you know of someone going and willing to take the window back with them for you I can bring it with me.

    Or maybe someone from Oregon would get it closer to you. Just a thought.

  • If it's a sedan, 1952 and 1953 sedans are the same. Came as tinted (solex) or clear.

    Hope this helps. Info. from 48-54 parts book, section FF 1 p. 376.

    part # 230352 fits 52-54 sedan, solex same industry # 248

    this info same in 52 parts book, 54 parts book, as well as 48-54 parts book.

    Yes Windshields are unique as are Hollywood rears.
  • Any leads on a front tinted windshield for a Jet?
  •  Would calling an insurance company and asking them if they have a number of a company that would have one
    That they might have dealt with before like heacock classic , Hagerty or some other insurance co.
    That works with the classic cars and trucks.
