I have a set of NOS 6 cyl. valve guides from a man who had a 36 & 41 Hudson. I am interested in selling them and wondering if 36-41 all use the same guides?

    Hi, Cap'n Video:

No, Hudson had two valve sizes in that period, differentiated only by their stem diameter. One was (I think) 1 5/16" stem, and the other a 3/8" stem. The break point was around 1938. But don't ask me which one was the earlier and which, the later. Actually, either guide and valve can be used in a 3x5 engine of that era, so long as the guide and valve match.

'36 and '37 used 3/8" valve stems, reduced to 11/32" in '38, and used from then on until '47 in the 6's '52 in the 8's. You can use 11/32 valves and guides if you are doing a '37 or earlier motor. they dropped down a size to reduce the possibility of valve bounce and reduce the wieght of the valves.

    Geoff.
