1935 Hudson Special Eight Story, Frank Kleinig Australia

  • Cracking video Dave ; thanks for posting it!

Some of the car control looks "exciting" for the passengers in the Hill Climb bit
  • That was something else - the exhaust system under the hood reminds me of Kelly Hinegardners 1938 Hudson 8 convertible.  If I remember right that car also had the twin-carburetor set up, but I'm not sure about that.

  • Great video, thanks for posting.  Alex, I'm sure the strange exhaust set-up was to keep the heat away from the intake.  At those high speeds, I'm sure the gas was boiling off before it could be utilized (i.e., vapor lock).
  • I didn't know there was film of the Kleinig car in action back in the day, thanks for the link Dave.

The exhaust gas on those engines is travelling vertically as it leaves the block, think of the up and over exhaust system as strange looking headers. I've seen similar on a racing splasher six.
  • The pipes in Kelly's convertible were wrapped in asbestos, as I recall.
