They should have a wing dedicated to hudson!
Consider the fact that no other car EVER dominated NASCAR like hudson did in 52.
cough cough..... (27 of 32)
Even in 65 when chevy and ford pulled out, still plymouth and dodge could not percentage wise match the number of wins to total races....
To add to this... I reason that there were more car makes out there in the 50's than any other era in NASCAR as well.... and the starting fields were larger as well....0 -
Yes, but as far as NASCAR and especially the France bunch is concerned, NASCAR only exists in the "modern era" (post-1982). Don't expect much of anything non-Mopar or Hudson, except maybe Richard Petty and maybe Tim Flock. The hierarchy is very anti-anything-not-GM-or-Toyota these days, they won't do justice to the rich early days of the sport. Bet on it.0

Yeah, back a couple years ago they touted the 50th Anniversary of NASCAR. I well remember wondering which 50 years were they talking about. There seemed to be a strong bias against Hudsons - one had to really dig thru all the articles, slick magazines, etc that came out during that period to find much about Hudsons. There was plenty written about post-1965 or 1970. One lop-sided explanation was there wasn't any TV coverage back then so there wasn't much in the way of material to show from those early days.

Petitioning the Hall of Fame might do it but I dunno..........Hudson has always been the underdog even when they accomplished great things they've been under-appreciated. Perhaps if Chrysler sponsored such a petition (given they legally own the name) something might happen. More likely though they'd want Chrysler's place in NASCAR history to get attention.0

Well fellas I have been to the Darlington Museum and Hudson is represented as the foundation of the modern NASCAR. There is a Hudson on display along with a skeleton engine on a stand with a full information card describing the engine and it's contribution. There are driver biographies that list Hudson and specific displays that show Hudson pictures and text. At the museum at Talladega there are many newer generation NASCAR vehicles as well as wrecked cars ... no Hudson the last time I was there. I am not sure if the Charlotte adventure will capitalize on the Darlington materials? Rumor has it that Darlington speedway and museum will be closing or has closed? So for those who would like to move the history several hundred miles... check with the folks at Darlington.0

If some one were to donate a nascar replica Hornet I'm sure the museum would take it. might be good exposure for us. Especially if they displayed a plaque of some kind about the club or the HET historical society.0

There is plenty of newsreel and historical film and tape of the early days, plus still photos, so there's no excuse for them not to acknowledge the '50s and early '60s. It's all about money, and right now, the money is Toyota and GM.0

Patrick is right on. I have old B & W 16 MM reels of races from that era and when I shwo then to other car nuts, the mere mention of Lee Petty as a young driver in his Mopars, starts the viewers cheering for him. Even though his hemi still lost the races to Hudson early on. It is all about Fame, and money. Lee Petty and all the descendents of ohter great names, only mention the name Hudson as," Oh yea, they were the car to beat in Grappa's days. And since he did, eventfully, enough said". We are the only ones to really blow our own horn if the time comes to do so in this new museum. I'll be watching it.0

I was merely relating my experience with several of the publications that appeared on the newstands during the 50th Anniversary celebrations. I found plenty of material from, say 1965, 1970 up - but very little on Hudson's.
I read letters in other publications that came out after, and the official explanation appeared to be as I stated.
You know, and I know, there was a lot of material floating around about those early days - I had one of those VHS videos showing 2 or 3 races back in the 50's that were totally Hudson. Unfortunately I loaned it to a certain couple out in Illinois and I havn't seen it since. Perhaps someday they will come across it and I'll get it back.
