ebay Phishers

Anyone else being inundated with false ebay contacts? Seems to be way up of late. All trying to phish acct info. Ditto Paypal. Walt

    Was getting hit with false ebay contacts - I simply fwd'd them to ebay@spoof.com, or some such. Would get a nice note from ebay saying they were "investigating". After a bit they false contacts moved on to somebody else.

    A few weeks ago, I actually had someone post their fake car forsale with my account info. Something didn't jive and e-bay caught it almost instantly and suspended my account. They were the ones that notified me. They were actually very thourough. Niels

    Most of the Phishing & Pharming scam websites are only up for a very short time before they are “busted’ and shut down. However, according to the Panda Security newsletter, even if they only have .05% successful “hits”, the scammers rake in an average of $100K per year. I’ve had a few from PayPal recently that look like the real thing… the tip-off is that they open with “Dear Member” instead of your actual ID name.

    Rick is right If you want to check it out, contact them directly. Never use the link in the email. Ebay and Pay Pal continuously tell us that they will not contact us in that manner. Also report the bogus e-mails to them, as Alex said. I have used Ebay@spoof.com several times, and as he said, I also get a response email from Ebay each time.

    Yah some can come with a virus attached to them i have had several in my e-mail didnt open them till i signed into ebay and they were not there so they are spoof. But i did open one seperatley scanned it for virus's didnt have any and the email said that they won my computer and if they have it with in so many days they would leave negative feedback. Sent it into ebay.

    I have also received what appear to be Ebay emails from "sellers" wanting to know why my Paypal doesn't work or from "buyers" asking when I will ship the item they bought from me. The problem is that I am not currently buying or selling anything. I immediately forward the phishing email to spoof@ebay.com and they respond within a few minutes telling me that the email is a fake. Theses spoofs look very real, so be careful. I recommend ONLY responding to Ebay emails through the Ebay website.
