Good to have you. I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information here on here
Perhaps you could give us some more info about the car your Brother-in-Law has ; always interested to learn of what is out there and what is being done with it
You may see that this message board sits within the official Hudson Essex Terraplane club website ; consider joining that as well where you'll catch others within the club

Back again and I'll just start by saying thanks again! My brother in law's car is a '50 Pacemaker with that 232. I really only had the engine here at my shop so I don't know too much about the rest of the car. The question he had for me was to do with the transmission (automatic). What fluid is to be used in it and then he mentions something about a cork clutch that has some type of oil used with it. Does anyone know the answers to these questions? Or I can find out from him more, if you need to know.

Welcome to the Forum.
The 232 motor does not have an automatic Trans. The Clutch does have fluid in it that needs drained and refilled occassionally. The Clutch Fluid can be obtained from Doug Wildwick in Indiana @ www.wrpht>com 317 398 4163, as well from other Members. Hudson Wet type Cork Clutch is an excellent clutch..The Standard Transmission takes 90 Wt gear Oil.

If it has an automatic transmission it uses automatic transmission fluid.
If it has a manual transmission, the clutch has cork facings that run in a bath of special oil called "Hudsonite".
You can substitute certain types of transmission fluid but the "real deal" is still available.
The oil is drained and inserted through plugs in the flywheel, and is accessible from the engine compartment. That's the short of it -- you can get specific information on how to do it and where to buy the Hudsonite, here at the forum.
If the car has sat for an extended period of time there is a good chance that the corks have become stuck to the flywheel and if so, you may be able to free them (without surgery) by putting solvent into the clutch. But let's cross that bridge when we come to it.

rugb,Hudson started using Hydramatic automatic transmissions in 1951. If the engine has a big "232" on top of the head, it is a 1951 engine, and could have an automatic transmission. If there is no 232 on the head, it is a 1950 engine (with 232 displacement) and would use the cork clutch as pictured by Jon.Do you have the flywheel on the engine?Per0
