Got my SS hupcaps back from the polisher (the big ones with the red triangle in the middle.  (They look great, btw).

How would one go about painting the triangle the stock red?   Any special prep?...keith

  • G'day, Mine were hand painted and look poor close up.

Rather than paint it, see if you can get the enamel powder used for applying on copper jewellery. You apply the powder and heat it up with a gas wand and melt the enamel - any badge/medal/trophy awards shop could do it quickly and more professionally than you could ever do with just paint

I think Wildrick sells the red triangle stickers that just go on the hubcaps.  But, if not, you can always buy sheet stock, make a pattern and cut out your own.
  • I use sign painters red enamel for my 51. For 52 it's the same and for 53 it's a darker maroonish red for the wheel covers. Just hand paint it with a thin badger hair brush.  Still looks good after 15 years.
  • Thanks, Fellas.   I'll take a stab with a brush.   I'll try not to do it after coffee.  Lol...k

Why not just tape the triangle off and use spray paint.
  • John, That would work except sign painters paint is a thicker more durable paint as the name implies. I've used it to paint signs and even outdoors it last much longer than an aerosol is capable of. The blue tape is a good idea though. Never did it that way. lol.    Keith if you're going to use sign painter's paint use One Shot. I think Eastwood sells it..

I'm with "onerare39".   My gosh people, the manufacturer had a simple mask (which you can make with three pieces of masking tape) and did a quick spray of red (like the US flag red) and it was DONE.   Of course you wipe the stainless with some lacquer thinner first so the paint sticks.   KEEP IT SIMPLE.

    To each their own method.
  • I appreciate all the comments.  Options are great...k
