I am going to have a new looking stock gas tank made for my 36 Hudson and 36 Terraplane I would like to know if there is any other 36 owners that would be interested in a new tank for your 36 car I also would like to hear from owners of 48 to 54 Hudsons that would like a new looking tank for your car a member I know asked me if I would take this project on because a friend of mine and I had the glove box springs made for 36 Hudsons and Terraplanes so here is the deal we have to do a hundred tank run for the 48 to 54 tanks I already have an order for ten tanks if any one is interested I will see this through to the end I should be able to get a price per tank in a few weeks. PS the tanks will come with new filler tubes Tom.

  • I would be interested if the price is not too high.

    Hey Tom,
I would be interested in the 36 tank.
    Depending on cost of course...
    Thanks!

  • I think you'd get better response if you post on the new forum. There seems to be alot more activity there. There should be a huge demand for new stepdown gas tanks.  Every stepdown out there needs a tank. You may as well post a price range to eliminate the "tank" kickers and cheap skates.

Tom, as I suggested on your "other" posting (at the regular HET Forum), I hope you'll insert an ad in the WTN about these tanks, because there are still a LOT of Hudson people who are not on-line, and would be potential customers.  You might also join the AACA Forum (it's simple; invent a password and username, just like here). and post your message on their "Hudson" forum. More potential buyers there, maybe.  (There are still actually Hudson owners who are unaware of either the Club or these two HET-run Hudson forums!)

Just a note: Kanter is now reproducing the 1952-56 Packard gas tanks in steel for $349 -- about the price Gas Tank Renu charges to clean and repair your old, rusty one.  And that price has a profit built in.  Given the choice, I would go "new" any day, over "repaired".  When you figure that Hudson out-produced Packard in every year but one, during that period, you would assume that the demand for repro tanks would be somewhat equal between the two makes.  So, I'm hopeful that these tanks can now be made available at an affordable price. (Alas! I cannot benefit, since I own a pre-StepDown!)

I'd be interested in a tank for a stepdown.  Again, depends on cost.
  • Let's see.....I think the gas tank may be the ONLY thing I don't need...LOL

Tom, I think you are saying that you'll be reproducing both the 1936, and the StepDown tanks.  Is that correct?  (Is there no other year that the '36 tank fits?)

Can you give us an idea of how much either tank is likely to cost in the end?  I would assume you'd be basing your price contingent on there being a run of 100, for each tank style, and thus if less than 100 customers are found, the price will be higher.

I think a projected price, or even a "range" of prices, would be helpful at this point because (as said before) it screens out the "tank kickers" who aren't serious.  Conversely it might attract people who (in the back of their minds) are thinking, "oh, those tanks will be 4 or 500 dollars each".  I would bet the price of the repro's would be competitive with the price of Gas Tank Renu or other fixer-upper companies.  And who wouldn't rather have the real deal instead of a patched tank, for the same money!

I purchased a new repro tank for my 50 Cadillac at about $370. That would be a  ballpark fair price . They fit the 50-53 Caddys. Original production figures are close to the 6 years of the stepdowns... '54 uses a bit different design. BTW, the tank was a good quality .

I do not believe 48 - 53 gas tanks will not fit 54's. Filler pipe is different.

Hi guys I need some more feedback from all the 1948 to 1954 owners about the new gas tanks there are two ways we can have these tanks made one is the new tank can be made with a stub for the filler tube and you would get a small rubber hose to connect the filler tube to the tank or we can have the full filler tube welded to the new tank just like the factory tanks were the reason I am asking is because of shipping if we go with the stub and use the rubber hose with two clamps it is cheaper to ship the tank to you then it is to ship the tank with the full filler tube welded on I am asking you now because I am only going to have all of these tanks made one way or the other with the stub or with the full filler tube welded on please let me know. PS hope to have all the details in the JULY AUGUST WTN.

I vote for a stub like the original with no rubber sleeve, i.e., welded on.  But, perhaps for shipping purposes, this could be left up to the purchaser to have it completed.  Probably not a popular option.

And aren't '52-'53 different than '48-'51?  (dictated by spare tire relocation for '52)
