The moderator probably pulled it due the rancor between two of the postees (I am trying to be nice). This kind of stuff really puts a damper on having fun.

I am all for a spirited debate and if you want to say my car is ugly or stupid that is one thing but... personal name calling and threats have no place on the forum and reflect negatively on an otherwise great group of Hudson enthusiasts.

Myself...I am glad the post was pulled.

FYI to ALL - Internet forumns allow us to instantly make posts "in the heat of the moment"...Did You Know...you can go back in and either delete or modify your comments so threads with potentially useable information don't get washed out due to some "passionate" discussions ;):D

I apologize to those who had some good positive input deleted when I pulled the thread (I tried to ease the handle down partway but it went all the way, and the danged thing flushed completely; jeepers, I gotta learn how to operate this forum, LOL!)

There's enough heat and anger in the world; people look to the Hudson website to be a haven of fellowship and common sense.

Maybe if someone would like to make a post which summarizes where the 4-bbl. conversation stood before the unpleasantness set in, we can pickup where we left off.

I was in on that thread, something must have happened over the weekend when I wasn't on line. I didn't know there was any bashing.
  • an entrepreneurial person should consider sending an existing manifold to a small sandcasting company either here or search for someone in asia for duplication. cardboard engineering has proven to be very cost effictive. (see komatsu) find and order 100 manifolds from someone (surely they would sell over a period of time) pay say 100$ each and sell for $200 or whatever. surely there is someone in this group with business skills in matters like this. or offer to buy the patterns from clifford for a reasonable price. this is not magic, just mechanics of business. how badly are they wanted and how many would be interested ? ? ?
  • You are a good man Jon. unfortunely some people don,t know when to stop.

You did the right thing Jon. Personal attcks have no place on this forum.

  • I think the right thing was done. I left another group because of the same thing. They also were spreading rumors and gossip about other members without any consideration that the person they were talking about was sitting and reading every word they wrote. We are all grown-ups here and for one, I don't have the time or desire to sit and read that kind of B.S. I am here to learn about something I am very interested in, not read the rantings of others.

    My two cents,

    Bob
  • I fully understand the need to deleate a thread when it gets out of hand.

Jon you did the right thing.

I was concerned that what we as a group were trying to achieve with finding

a replacement for the intake (and maybe other items) didn't get dropped with

the removal of the initial thread.

On wenesday I will be discussing the possibility of sourcing a updated version

of the 4bbl intake. A salesrep we work with reps a casting outfit here in the

midwest. They have done sandcasting for the company I work for, with outstanding

results in tooling cost, delivery, pricing and small quantities runs. If anything positive

turns up I will add the information.

    thanks for the info,

  • When I talked to Larry he told me about those new headers and X-pipe. I am waiting to see if he gets them in. I will order a couple of them for the projects I am working on.

Well my exhaust is shot on my Special I just picked up and I mean the muffler is blown out too. Appears to be dinky 1 3/4 tube all the way through. Anyone know what the collector size is on any typical Hudson header? I will just have a new exhaust put in sized for the header when I get one,

    Right on Jon....

For those who are talking with Clifford Performance... please let me know if they are going to update thier website... I am trying to keep the right suppliers on my Stepdown site... Jack was a friend ... do not know current crop. Also the intakes fit 232, 262 and 308 engines. The headers used to come in two types.. Short and Long wheel base. Are the "new headers" for both...

Thanks to all who are spending time on this activity.
  • When I talked to Larry he said the new header replaced both the short and long header so this is it. I also asked about clearance underneath for the X-Pipe. He said they had tested on a Hornet and it was fine.

A point of interest. In an old Clifford catalog, early 70's.. The headers are for "all stepdowns". No mention of different stock numbers for the long or short wheelbase cars. tubes appeared to be equal length.Less than $100 too ! LOL

Jon, while in the thred you wish to edit, you click on thread tools, then click on delete posts -- not delete thread ---. Then you will see a list of all the posts within the thread. Make sure only the posts you wish to delete are checked and then click "preform Action" This will only delete the posts you checked.

Dave you are right about the catalog... it also says the headers fit 232,262, 308 equipped cars from 1940-1954. This is a true statement in that the Headers are advertised as KITS. When you ordered the headers in 1970 you were asked for you application and the header KIT was manufactured. The clearance on a Long wheelbase versus a Short wheelbase was known and these headers were more frequently sold. I made the BIG MISTAKE 15 years ago and sold the only short wheel base set of headers I had... every set I have had the opportunity to purchase since are for the long wheel base cars.

Hope this adds some clarification. In my case I want to leave the inner fender well inplace and run the headers under the car with both exhausts traveling back on the same side. Original style form the Clifford headers.

    Cheers

What is the X pipe for? Are the headers split for running duals? My exhaust is toast and I don't want to spend a lot on a system that won't work when I get headers. I need to do something soon, my system is falling apart and the muffler is completely blown out.
  • Yes the header is a two outlet configuration and the X-pipe is supposed to balance the duals and provide the correct ratio of flow to backpressure. It seems to me to look a lot like the X-pipe setup that magna flow are pushing on most of their exhausts these days.

Well there goes my theory of having a single 2.5 or 3 inch system unless I want to go from the two to single headpipe. I really don't see the purpose of running duals other than two small pipes will give you better low end torque than a large single. A large single will be less expensive lighter and less busy under the car than a full dual system. I haven't even got mine running right yet and it has plenty of low end torque, just runs out really quick. Seems to have a really low rear end ratio. Have to check on that.
  • Clifford also sells a Y-pipe to get you back to a single. Go to my website and hit downloads Larry sent me the lastest Clifford catalog in pdf and I put it there for inquiring minds to look at. Near the back is the Hudson stuff.

That's quite an impressive site you have there. Unfortunately I can't get anything to download other the the cover of the 72 catalog. Is it any different than going to there website? There is a head, intake, header and a couple of cams. wonder if this guy is interested enough to do a twin carb manifold. I would bet he would get more bites on that.
  • Here is the exact download location. Click on the download button. And yes the catalog shows more stuff. You shouldn't have any problems downloading. If you create an account you can get at the other Hudson stuff, there are some spec sheets for your 54 also.

Nope still can't get anything. Just keeps running me around in a circle. Looks like it is going to do something, but never does. Just teases you I guess. Try to make an account thinking that was it, but it just keeps giving me an error saying I don't exist. Well I know that I am trying to exist. Any ideas on where to find a vacuum chamber for a 54 distributor? Mine is blown and I have been coming up zero's all day.

I get the same thing as 464Saloon. Do you need to create an account?
  • Not to pickup the Clifford catalog. You need to create an account if you want the other Hudson stuff I have posted. I have stuff I scanned in for Hudsons. What error do you get when you try and download. When you click on the download button it will take you to a page with the file when you click on that you will get to enter a number, you enter that and it should give the file. 2 people today without accounts downloaded it.

Give it a try and tell me what happens. Also create an account and you can pickup other Hudson stuff. I am busy scanning and putting my efforts there plus some of my members are also adding downloads.

Also check out my links section that is growing I am adding new sites as I find them plus the whole links section is searchable so makes it easier to find stuff. I am also looking for members to add links as well.

I haven't figured out how to create an account. When I try it just tells me it doesn't recognize me. I assume it wouldn't if I am new and trying to creat one, but why I keep hitting that I am not sure. God knows I have created accounts all over for things like this. I'll keep trying.

I don't know what is going on. I just tried again and it seems to have recorded my name. As soon as I start to put my name in, it finishes it along with the password. I hit login and it gives me an error so I stumped.

Try " I forgot my password " and see if it is incorrect. Or start all over again and see if you get the 9bb2al test strip to complete the transition.
