Twin H trivia

I just aquired a twin H intake and exhaust from a Hash..55 I think. The most obvious difference in the intake from the stepdown, was the equalizer tube is cast into the newer manifold.I think everyone knows that. The least noticeable difference was the exhaust manifold is not interchangeable with the stepdown exhaust pipe. The three outlet bolt holes are spaced differently. Also the outlet piece is smaller than the stepdown manifold, so the stepdown outlet can't be used on the hash manifold. It is a shorter and more restricted.(less efficient?) If the entire exhaust manifold were to be used on a stepdown, the exhaust pipe and flange would have to be changed to a longer one with the bolt flange moveable so it could be "clocked" to fit the Hash manifold. It's do-able but not a bolt on replacement.

Dave your right it is different but it lets more air flow through it WHY WOULD YOU BE USING A 'HASH' MANAFOLD ON THE ALMIGHTY STEP/down don't you know all the has cars are junk LOL JUST KIDDING IT IS NOT A BOLT ON REPLACEMENT WITH SOME SMALL CHANGES

Paul, you posed a good question. Why...?.. Well I have a Twin H set up on my 49 Super Six four door. The exhaust manifold has a very worn out heat riser. It also has a crack that isn't causing any problems, but needs to be repaired. I figured I would just switch maniflods completely, then repair my old one and sell it. Since the Twin H isn't correct for the 49 anyway, who cares if it's a Hash one? I even have some Hash aircleaners for it. If I try really hard, I should be able to come up with a complete good running spare twin H setup. Aircleaners to exhaust. Then If I sell them I'll have a few more bucks in the "convertible" fund. I only need to save another $40,000 or so.. LOL

while you're getting the new pipe made, take advantage of the 2 1/4" outlet size of the hash manifold.

Hey Nick, You are right, it is a quarter inch larger. I guess that was a way to try to counter the smaller restrction above the outlet. It sure will make it easy to make an adapter to my 2" header pipe. Just slide a 2 1/4" pipe over my old 2" . That will have to do for a while.

Dave, I have a very good pipe I took off my '51 when I changed from Hash Twin-H manifolds to the earlier ones. It looks to be a factory job, very similar to the standard stepdown ones, but has the flange oriented differently. E-mail me at hetpwald@mindspring.com (remove the "het).
