What is the largest pipe and will an oval muffler fit on a stepdown? I was looking at my system which is blown out and trying to get an idea of what I can get in there. I will bet someone here has already been through this.

  • I run dual glasspacks all the way out the back. There's nothing quite like the sound of a Hornet with duals!!! There is a full set of photos on http://www.hudsonmotorcar.org/ if you're interested. I run the original Twin H intake with Clifford headers.

    Thanks I have it set up with a shop to run a single 2 1/2 with a Dynomax super turbo. Good flowing muffler with a nice sound. Going to drop it off at lunch and pick it up after work. Hope it sounds and runs better.

    I ran a Flowmaster 40 series on my 53 for a while but wasn't too impressed. Of course, being 27 years old, I need it to be loud. Switched to the smallest glasspack the muffler shop had (12-13 inches), and enjoy the sound more than ever. Next step, headers. Ultimate goal is to make children cry and dogs run away from home.

    Well I got my system on and it is suprisingly quiet. Seems to breath a little easier but that manifold is small. He had to step it up quite a bit to get up to the 2 1/2 inch. I think a header is in order, but it will do for now. I am waiting for the issues going back and forth headers to get solved. It looks like Clifford is the only one that makes them but they can't deliver and it appears that maybe some others on the forum might start making some.
  • Good news on the possible header solution. The place that I am going to work for has the equipment to make the headers. They have tube benders and a CNC Plasma for burning the flanges. I have known the owners for years and I don't think it will be too long before I can obtain permission to use the equipment on "Goverment Projects". What will take time is design. If anyone can help there, I would really appreciate it.

    Seems like the easiest thing would be to copy an existing set and just produce them from there. It wouldn't be worth doing the R&D trying to develop your own design for the limited amount of cars out there that could use them. Maybe make a couple of small changes like a thicker flange or a single instead of double collector so no one can say you copied them. Just my 2 cents. I have never seen a Hudson with a header but I have dealt with plenty of other cars with headers.
