Was there some kind of special paint for trunk area in 54 Hornet? Maybe sound deading paint or something of the sort? Gloss or simi gloss in black??

Thanks for help.

Black spray undercoating is all Hudson used.

Thanks for your input Dave. We will use a black undercoating in the trunk area.

In the earlier Hornets, the upper trunk, that is the part ahead of the trunk lid is done in the car color. The inside of the fenders, inner wheel wells and floor are undercoated in black. The divider beween the rear seat is a light grey in mine. Walt
  • My 49,000 mi. Wasp is painted body color in trunk. except down low where it has undercoating.

Only body color should be overspray. If painted body color, car was repainted.

My '51 was originally green, as was the underside of the trunk lid and the area forward of it, which is aft of the window. It was not undercoated, although the lower surfaces described earlier were. Can't imagine why it would have been painted after manafacture... car surely wasn't. Paint is not thick, but I wouldn't call it overspray. Walt

I'm not sure dave, my '50 Pacemaker has the body color (revue red) on the underside of the trunk lid and looks the same shade as the outer frame rails interior, and firewall. It would seem that the trunk lid should look newer than than the firewall, etc. if it had been repainted. I don't believe it ever had the original color repainted. The outside body (but not inside the trunk lid, firewall, etc.) was repainted black though.
