1928 Essex Brown Bi-Lite

Hi All,

Hope everyone had a really great Christmas and looking forward to the New Year.

I just received, via Ebay, a Brown Bi-Lite (stop tail lamp) for my car which was missing.
The unit is complete apart from a wire or clips that hold the licence plate glass in place?
Can on of our knowledgeable members of the forum please point me in the right direction to a source for whatever holds the glass in place?

Thank you,

Ensignman

  • Hi Ensignman

You can make up retainers quite easily using some springy stainless steel cut into small squares or rectangle, bent down at each end, and with a hole in the middle for the bolt to pass through. I prefer to use stainless nut and bolt (3/16" from memory). You need to be careful not to put too much pressure on the glass to retain it only and not chip or break it (as I have done in the past) hence flexible stainless as an example that can put firm pressure to hold but not damage the glass.
    Hope that helps

  • Thanks Ernie28.

A sort of Z shaped clip, did you also seal the glass in with some sort of silicone?

  • No. There is a cork gasket under the round "STOP" lens but nothing underneath the licence plate glass.
  • Thanks Essx28-1

Ensignman, I concur with David on that.
  • Made two nice glass retaining clips out of brass today.

    Thanks for the advise!
  • Glad it worked
