What oil is everyone using?

What are you guys using for oil these days.  I used to use Rotella T 10W40 but the high zinc stuff is now long gone and I used up my stash.  Need to change the oil in the C8.

  • Don't be silly, Dan.  We can't POSSIBLY all be using the same oil!  =))
  • I just rebuilt the 308 in my car and still have the break in oil.  However, I should have the Twin H setup on shortly and will need an oil change.  I plan to use a high grade of motor oil that is sold for diesel trucks.  When the auto industry forced the issue with the oil in cars most all of the zink was removed (air quality).  Oil for "Senior" cars have a higher level of zink, and the diesel industry never removed any form their oil (about 1200ppm).  I think this is a good fix for our Hudson's.
  • I know my 1936 Hudson 6 is using diesel oil sold by shell. Its been on it since 1982 with no problems. cheers Ken
  • Brad Penn racing oil.  Has high zinc content.  Buy it by the case, to save money.

  • Valvoline makes a racing oil sold at Napa Auto stores, and it has a high zinc content. It is on sale until the 31st, at a good price.
  • The Shell diesel oil is Rotella T.  I was using the 15W-40 (sorry thought I had 10W-40) that met the now expired diesel AI specification, and had about 1400 ppm zinc.  That was the standard for most of the car hobby folks.  The new Rotella  meets the AJ specification, that superceded the AI,  and the zinc has been reduced to around 1200 ppm.  From what I have read the reduced zinc is still sufficient to protect cam lobes and lifter surfaces.
  • Brad Penn is my choice
  • I've been using Rotella diesel oil, with a zinc additive (ZDDP Plus).

Does anyone have an opinion on the zinc additives?
  • Here we go again!!!!
  • That's been covered to death, before.  Do a search on any car forum and you can get all the info you want.
