New Condenser

If I wanted to find and purchase just the condenser in the distributeur for a 6 cyl. 232 engine, where would I find one?

    Dave Kostansek has new (modern) condensers and the clips to hold them to the outside (of the earlier Hudson distributors). He advertises in the WTN

    NAPA/Echlin AL 868, unless you have the IGT series distributor (check the data plate). In that case it's AL 869.

    The Pacemaker came with an Autolite distributor IAT 4002 in 1950 and in 1951-2 the distributor number was Autolite IAT 4203. The IGT series distributor was for the 8 cyl Hudsons only.Not likely to be found in a Pacemaker. The OEM number from Autolite for the replacement condenser you need is IAT 2015R. Good luck with your repair.

    The Pacemaker in 1950 used Autolite distributor # IAT 4002. In 1951-2 the distributor supplied by Autolite was IAT 4203 . The IGT distributor was supplied to Hudson by Autolite for the 8 cylinder models only. Not likely to be found in your Pacemaker. Autolite OEM replacement number for your condenser is IAT 2015R. Good luck with your repair.

    Pertronix makes an electronic conversion so you never have to worry about it again. They even have them in both 6 and 12V.

    Actually any old condensor will do the job, providing it is within the 18 to 22 uF range. It is just simply a case of the mounting and pig-tail connection. Makes it easier of course if you can get the correct one and screw it straight in.

    It's worth replacing just because. These go bad jus sitting there. A friend of mine is a skilled and fast mechanic who amazes me with his ability to work on modern crappy little cars that I won't even touch but he's so young that he's never worked on a points-and-condenser system. He has a friend with an old Yamaha that had been sitting for 12 years and they couldn't get it to run. I went over there, determined that the spark was very weak and points were arcing and replaced the condensers. Fired right up and they were both looking at me like I was Moses with his staff. Hah!
