The car's stated serial number, which starts with 491, betrays its true identity as a Super Six. (A tip of the hat to Alex Burr's Hudson Handbook...)

Well, It is a Super Six, but someone has used a lot of Commodore interior stuff. The vent windows on a Super would be friction, not cranks and the additional wood grain panels below the window sills are Commodore. The dash is Super six because the light wood grain ends on the glove box doors and dark grain on the ends. The steering wheel is Super. The robe rail on the back of the front seat is Commodore. It's a Outside it has all super stuff with the additional fender ornaments and outer bumper guards that were standard on a Commodore and extra on a Super. I have a 49 Super that has been Commodorized.. Mostly on the outside..That one is a nice looking car though.
  • Before I read this thread, I had already e-mailed the seller and brought it to his attention that it was indeed a super six because of the serial number. He was thankful and responded that they were not experts and that there was not "too" much difference in the book price.

My response is it's not just about the value, it is about the representation. I would be pissed if I had bought a car that I thought was a "Commodore" and found out it was really a "Super Six". Nothing against a Super Six, just want what I paid for. Niels
  • Still all in all, it's a good looking car. A lot of work has been done and will probably be a good deal in the long run.
