The intake manifold would have been red as is the engine block. The manifold would have been raw cast iron. I have never heard of any special coating applied to the exhaust manifold. I have used several different manifold paints but none hold up to daily use. If I were building a driver, I would bead blast and use a cast iron "color" high temp paint,..... then watch it deteriorate. Good Luck with your toy.

Thanks Dave. That cast iron sure does take a beating from the elements. You say it came raw iron. I guess they did not think we would still have them in 2006.

    Thanks Dave.
  • You can bead blast it then use a high temp powder coating. They are very durable and are used on headers without fail. I have seen many shops advertising this finish they are very durable and look good for years.
  • Paul- I have used PJ1 Fast Black exhaust Paint with real good results. I got it at a motorcycle parts store. Norm

Is there any difference between the Twin H exhaust manifold and the standard? I am trying to purchase a complete Twin H setup and why pay to ship a heavy exhaust manifold if I don't need it. I probably will go with a header anyway, but I would like to try the Twin H first to see what the differance is.

you will probably get a whole string of responses explaining why you want the extra manifold.

but to answer your question, the mounting studs will need to be changed and a second hole must be added for the choke heat tube on the second carb. If your twin-h is a hash set-up, you will need both pieces as they are not compatible with the stepdown manifolds. to tell if you are dealing with a hash twin-h, look to the area of the vacuum equalizer, the hash is cast into the manifold while the stepdown is an external tube. now if it is the hash, you will also have to modify your exhaust pipe as the outlet is different.
