Not being near my manual, does it tell you that you have to jack the motor a bit, or lower the k member? In Walt Mordenti's tech tips, he has a good procedure where certain k member bolts are changed to much longer ones, and thusly the k member drops down allowing the pan to clear the pickup tube.
Those tech tips are on the online library for free download, in 3 volumes.

BTW, try NOT to 'drop the pan'. It dents them.0

Oboy there is a dent in the pan to the left of the drain plug , it looks like it was hit by some thing I'll take a better look in the morning0
