27 Essex dies
My 27 Essex starts but every once in a while it just dies going down the road. Time I coast down and stop it usually started right back up. It is getting fire and gas still in carb bowl. I am going to tear down the carburator tomorrow. I would like to know if there is anything special to check for. The last time it died it would not start.

Geoff Clark will jump in here bye and bye, and tell you exactly what's wrong. I'm going to take a guess and let's see if I've learned anything from him these past few years! I'll guess the problem lies in your vacuum tank. (Don't ask me how to fix it!) Let's see if I'm correct.0

Okay, the problem is either the filter in the bottom of the carburettor clogged up, or the filter in the top of the vacuum tank. By the time you stop, remove the top of the carb and inspect, there is enough gas seeped through to fill the bowl again. Undo the big nut on the bottom of the car and clean the flat gauze filter. The vacuum tank filter is a pretty coarse one, but does clog from time to time. Remove the fitting from the gasoline line to inspect.
