hydra-matic kickdown?
how much should a hydra-matic shift down when taking a slow corner? mine only seems to go down to 3rd if i go less than 20 mph,and won't shift down to 2nd until i'm almost at a stop.is this normal? i've read the instructions over and over.i have ALL the special tools.i've talked to an oldtimer about these trans in general, but he used to mostly modify them for drag racing.anyone have any ideas?

My '53 Super Wasp reacts very similar to that; I have to manually downshift to second going up the hill by my house. And to a certain extent, the '54 Hollywood.0

George:
What you're experiencing is pretty standard. A normally operating Dual-Range Hydro in the "DR-4" position is supposed to downshift from 4th to 3rd between 14-16 mph with a closed throttle, (foot off the gas). It'll kick down to 2nd between 8-11 mph and finally down to 1st between 5-7 mph. Speeds may vary depending on engine tune, transmission adjustments, speedometer accuracy, etc. To force a downshift into 2nd for better acceleration, just "punch it". She'll get up & go! Hope this helps.
