33 Terraplane door hinge post

im in the process of building a 33 and noticed the post that secures hinges etc on my Tudor also has provisions for a striker plate and guide hole on opposite side for a four door.   I found it interesting and was wondering if anybody has seen this and or was it common in the industry to only make one part like this for totally different makes.   I can take a picture but I thought I throw out first.
