What would be a suitable radial tire size for a 49 Hudson stepdown.

    The limiting factor is clearance in the rear wheel arch to get the wheel in and out, 215s on the standard 5" rim worked OK for me. The 215s were too wide for the spare wheel well in my 53 but that's not going to worry you for a 49.

    I had 215s on my 49 . Enough clearance at the rear to get them in/out and not to big for the rim
