'38 Terraplane flat head six...
I'm assuming it's the 212. Does it have an oil filter? Is this the so-called splasher engine and no oil pump?
As my name here implies... before my time!
Thx
David

Yes, should be the 212 engine. "Splash" oil system. Has an oil pump, but it delivers quantity, not much pressure (around 5-7 psi). Dippers on the lower end of the rods splash oil all over the inside of the engine, cast-in troughs direct some of this oil to a reservoir above each main bearing.0

I see. Kinda like the John Deere 2 cylinder "Poppin Johnny" engines then, they have 10-12 PSI 'Normal' pressure but the pump is huge.
Does the Hudson have an oil filter?
Thx!0 -
Not unless you install one. And because of the setup, only a portion of the oil will be filtered.0

I have a 212 splasher in my 39. It doesn't have a traditional filter but there is a screen in the oil pan that acts as a filter from what I was told. Would guess the 38 wouldn't be much different.0
