chopped & dropped '51 Hudson
It's an original 2-door with a 4-door roof to give it a more sleak look. I know this one might start a debate over whether or not it's a sin to chop a Hudson, so let's just keep in mind that we're all on the same team here. We wouldn't be on this site if we didn't love Hudsons. I for one think it looks pretty sweet. There's definitely something to be said for keepin' it stock, but I think there's also a place for making a car your own. As much as we all admire the design and performance of a classic Hudson, if we were each to design our ideal car they wouldn't all look the same. Plus, building a car like this is not easy (nor is restoring one to original condition), so the talent and hard work that goes into them should at the very least be respected and admired. Besides, customizing cars like this only makes the stock ones more rare and valuable. Okay, maybe that's a stretch. Like I said, I'm not taking sides, so please don't send me hate mail!

Although deviating from stock (to this degree) is not my cup-o-tea, the car does look cool and one has to acknowledge the work that when into creating it. I'd rather see this as opposed to the car being left to rot or (eeek!) crushed. However, doing a chop and drop on a stepdown era Hudson seems to be somewhat of a contradiction.

I like dig the cad tail light but iam not too sure on the grill desoto would have looked better but still a pretty sweet ride anyways always wonder how do they get rid of the crome below the door and rear fenders to make it look like one solid piece0

Kinda cool, but grille is too Buick looking for me.0

I agree with Niels, the grille is way to toothy and detracts from the rest of the car. Something simpler would be better, as would a different, perhaps darker color.
Oherwise the car is nice.

Why does a vision of a paper shredder come to mind?0

Hi Neil,
Nice photos. Car probably needed to be posted in our sub-forum.
The quality of body work looks great. With that sedan roof line it looks as if some extra passengers could enjoy the ride too.
Question: Is there any way I could receive larger pics of this car from you for my Hudson album? Say about 30-36 picas across for each photo.
Peace,

I totally agree. I thought a different color might have looked a lot better, probably darker. I thought the green graphics down the side of the car detracted from it too. I also am not a fan of the grill. I think if I were to customize a Hudson I would leave the original grill, 'cause I think they look sharp. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Also, I've never been a fan of the old Merc-style grills. I've seen a couple custom Hudsons with Merc and like-merc grills. You'd think you'd want to distinguish the car from a merc. But that's just me talking. If you want to see other, larger pictures of this car, go to http://www.roadangelscarclub.com/http://www.roadangelscarclub.com/

I love the look of this car! That long roof line is an excellent idea, though more work than I can do. Paint color, yes, is not my first choice for sure, and have to agree on the grill. I'm going to try and see if I can make a '55 Olds grill look cool in mine. I just think the '50 Hud grill looks like the attic vents you see on gable roofed homes, except the Hud has chrome strips and a triangle on it!
Maybe w/ a darker color and some subtle flames!?! :-)

it is an excellent idea, hudson even thought enough of it to build thousands of them every year.0 -
Hey stffy64 and Jay,
I've been wondering how they get rid of that horizontal sheet metal attchment line myself. I would sure like to do it to my car. There is a nice custom from Australia which has the line removed on it also. It can be found at the pearlcraft.com/au site.
Oh by the way Jay, I'll bet your are relieved now that tax season is over. Get some rest and enjoy yourself.
Peace,

Chaz, I edited my previous post and added directions to a webpage with a bigger picture of the car. Also, if you email me at neilish@u.washington.edu, I will forward you an email with a larger version of these pictures (they're still pretty small though). And sorry about not posting to the sub-forum. I'm a relatively new member, and I didn't realize there was a sub-forum. I'll remember that in the future though.
Thanks,
Neil0
