I've got a question which you may or may not be able to answer. The VIN on my 54 Special 2dr sedan is 6313483. Any idea as to when it was built and how many. One gentlemen at the last California Inland Empire Chapter meet predicted around 400. I don't know if it was that low but considering only 50,000 total Hudson's of all models were built in 54, I would have to bet this one is pretty low.

At the moment all I have for serial number breakdown are 1946-1949 serial number/month break downs.

For '54 all I have are model breakdowns - And that list shows a total of 24,833 Hornet's built in 1954. Since the 6D Hornet Specials didn't show up until around, what, March or April, I think, that means that most '54 Hornets would be Model 7D's.

It would be difficult to figure just how many by serial number alone - since the numbers were assigned as cars came off the line. Your car, 313483, is a Model 6D - the next one off the line, 313484, could have been a Wasp/Super Wasp or a Hornet 7D, or even another 6D.

I'm still looking for serial number/month break downs tho.

One of my books, I think the Encyclopedia of American Cars ( I think that's the name) said something like that number of Hornets were built. I don't know the difference from 6D to 7D, but just a guess breaking out the different models, 4 door, 2 door coupe, 2 door Sedan, Convertible, etc, I would assume most were sedans and the least were either convertibles or 2 door sedans like mine. I know when I first saw mine for sale on this forum, I had never seen one like it before. It attracted quite a bit of attention at the chapter meet I was at last month and it was at a technical school with all kinds of people and makes, not just Hudson. It's probably a #3 car at best so it ain't from being shiny.

About the only difference between 6D Specials and 7D Hornets was the trim package. I've dug up some info on the '54 models - but the 6D's came in so near the end there isn't much available on what all the differences were. About the same between Wasp and Super Wasp, I suspect. 6D was a "cheap" Hornet.

Here's a question for the Moderator - Why is the message are so restricted for storage of messages?

It's really a PIA because there are a lot of ones I'd like to keep around but don't want to manage on my local hard drive when I have an - albeit free - account going here on the forum.

At least bump it up to 100-200 total messages so it doesn't present such a problem.

I mean we Hudson folks are the only ones using the forum...right? ;) :D
