Where do I Paint???

As I’ve been painting my 37 coupe’s 212ci engine I have a question.  How does one paint the area not covered by the exhaust manifold gaskets on the engine block?  Do I take a rough guess & paint outside the gasket areas before assembly?  Do I just paint the entire engine block area even under the manifold gasket?  Or something else.

    I’ve been using Bill Hirsch Paint for the engine.  I assume it it would work....

     While we’re on the subject of what to paint, The brackets for the generator should they be black or silver?  I suppose I could go either way but in case somebody tried one way but found it better the other, please let me know.
