Intro and my new, first, Hudson :-)

Hello to all, I've been a member here for a while and have a few posts, but I plan to be much busier here now that I have a Hudson finally :-) I've been looking for a few years now and this one was an impulse buy and "right time right place" purchase. I have a real good reason to join the club as well. Can someone point me to the website for the Hudson Club again?

The title states 1950, but it sure looks like a 1951 inside and out to me. It was listed as a Super Six and I think that might be the case from the pictures I have seen online. It's also not a beaty queen or even original looking, but I like the rat rod look and may eventually do something different later down the road that's more original.

Interior needs redone and there's lots of bondo work under and hidden under the paint, but the frame and floors are solid so a good starting point so I'm told. None of the lights work nor do the wipers or horn, so lots of electrical work to do I guess. It starts, runs, & drives decent so that's a plus.

Anyway, I'm looking for advice and any help folks here are willing to provide. Thanks in advance,

    Herb:

I saw this car at Carlisle and I am guessing that is where you picked it up. Hope you got a good deal on it. There are plenty of parts around and you should be able to get your car the way you want it. Yes it is a '51 not a '50 I noticed that on the posting as well. Welcome to the group. Here is the link to the HET club:

Has a 49 hood ornament and the upside down "V" is missing from the grille ala 53. Kool Ride!

Yes picked it up at Carlisle on Sat during the heavy rain. Price had been marked down 3 times and I couldn't get him to budge any lower then $3295.00 Seemed like a fair price for it, but time will only tell as I dig into the car to see if I have major problems. I ran it around town for about 30 mins and found the breaks to be weak, clutch needs adjusted, lights don't work, wipers are not working, and it overheated a little when I parked it in front of the house. The body has had some bondo repair, and the new paint may be hiding a lot I can't see. Frame/body and floors looked pretty solid so still seemed like a good price of a new project and since it started right up seemed fair to me.
  • Welcome to the Hudson hobby. Great cars that I'm sure you'll fall deeper in love with the more you sit behind the wheel.

    Cool, very cool.

Inside the passenger side door, at the hinge pillar, there should be a triangular plate that says something like "Hudson Monobilt" - there is your serial number and that should solve the mystery of what type car you have.

Looking forward to hearing more about your car and the things you discover along the way - that's all the fun. I find something new everytime I mess with mine, in a good way (most of the time).

Post the serial number or go to my website @ http://groups.msn.com/HudsonGeneralSpecifications/

and click on "1950-1954 Hudson Serial Numbers" - that will give you the year and starting serial number for your car.

Thanks for the link, great info!

I checked the car tag and I'm confused after looking at your webpage. My tag has the following on it: 5A 83876 but your page has 5A-101. Am I looking at the right tag?

    Herb

Sure you're looking at the right tag - the 5A identifies the car as a Super Six - the 101 is the starting serial number for all models.

The first one off the line was numbered 101,so....Subtract the 101 from you number and you will see that yours was the 83,775th one built.
  • Welcome to the club! Glad to see another one in the fold. Modified or not, there's a great bunch of guys here and in the club.
