Just reconfigure as they were, use a feeler gauge to set the contact points per specification and check the dwell with a dwell meter. Your specification book or service manual should have the correct gap and dwell angle. IF you pull the distributor out of the car, mark your alignments exactly or you will have to readjust the timing. If you get the dwell within spec., then you have the points right.0

I cna never seem to remember to login. Also, inspect the rotor and cap for wear and if the condenser looks aged, change it out as well.0

Be careful and use a magnetic screwdriver so that you don't drop the tiny screw holding the points down into the distributor, which may chip off the teeth (a friend of mine actually had that happen once while working on a Plymouth). Take a real good look at the way that the points are wired to the condenser and distributor and make sure that you put the wires back exactly like they came out. Use point lube at the proper places. Bump the starter to get the points to a high spot on the cam, use a feeler gauge to gap them to spec, tighten them up and you're done. Hint: the older I get the less I like bending over a fender so you may want to pull the distributor and do the work on the bench. You can also check spring tension, general wear, etc. much easier that way. Good luck.0
