1929 Essex do have to prime oil pump after changing oil

    No you shouldn't need to. I never have on any year Essex  I have had. The only time you may need to is if you drop the oil pan. Even then unlikely.

    No, you should not need to  prime the pump unless you have removed and dismantled it.

    Cleaned the oil pump an all is well
