gaskets

I've removed my valve cover pans in preparation to adjust the valves. I don't have replacement gaskets and was wondering if any of you have tried using gasket "goo" in lieu of a cork gasket?

Comments

  • I would not just use the "goo". Get a sheet of gasket matrial at a parts atore and cut new gaskets or order replacement gaskets from Dale Cooper. Might use a little of the goo to help to seal.
  • Jim Canadian Tire has rolls of the gasket cork I got a couple of rolls and make my valve cover gaskets from them, works like a charm and is the same thickness as original. I think there about $8 a roll.
  • good to know thanks
  • Is this marterial good for making the gaskets only for valve covers or is it usable for head, pan... so on? Please let me know. (New to the hobby)
  • I would never make a head gasket with this material. Head gaskets are a specialized beast and its always best to buy one of those from Dale Cooper. You can however make a pan gasket from it. They also sell a standard gasket making roll for making gaskets like the oil pump to block gasket. I only use the stuff when I can't get my hands on real gaskets. Since you are in the states you can get the real thing from Dale Cooper pretty quickly and save yourself all the labor.
  • Ox, Stepdown Hudsons used cork gaskets on the distributor, headlight bucket to fender,on kingpins, valve covers, some differential covers, fuel sender to tank, fuel pickup pipe to tank, and a few other locations depending on what model stepdown you may have.. Get them from Dale Cooper if you want them already produced or buy the cork gasket paper if you want adventure.

It's kinda dumb to say Dale Cooper again, since everybody else already has. However, I have to say I had a GREAT experience with Dale's products and service. His gaskets are perfect. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only way to go.
