They seem too available to chance anything like re-using one. I bet some special hard to find ones, there are no other options though... but Hudson stepdown gaskets are readily available.0 -

Best gasket # 722, head gaskets:
appear to have a steel lining sandwiched between 2 black, carbon-fiber layers;
plus a small steel edging surrounding the combustion chamber within each cylinder.

I just rec'd mine and don't know whether to use AL paint or Armor-All ! !
Using Armor-All; I suppose if I want to remove the head for some reason the gasket could be reused if in a bind and can't locate a new gasket. decisions - decisions0 -
No, they are not copper--do not use any sealer on the "black surface" of the gasket, just around where the metal shows. This gasket seals so tightly, it is difficult to get the head off. You will need a razor blade to remove the material off the block and head if you should ever have to remove the head. Make sure you clean your head & block well with an solvent and keep your fingerprints off the surface. 10 times better than the fel-pro; however that is just my opinion. Others will differ I'm sure. We will be posting the best gasket lines for the 212 254 232 262 308 on our website soon. Have gaskets in stock now.

Would it be an advantage to use it on a block where somebody had been very enthusiatic about scraping gaskets and put scores on top of it with a screwdriver or something? What does one cost?0
