can anyone tell me how to tell the difference between a 232 and a 262 by looking at it externaly. I know the heads will usually the size on them but these can be interchanged. thanks

    The 232 should have a 1 barrel carb.

    Do to the fact that the only major differance between a 232 and a 262 is crankshaft stroke and piston pin location, it is difficult to tell what displacement engine you have.

    Yes, all 232's did come stock with 1 barrel carbs, but that could of been changed over the years. If the engine is not in a car and it is a stick shift the clutch disc size 9 inch in a 232 vs 10 inch in a 262. Sooooo the only way to tell for sure is to pull the head and measure the stroke 3 7/8" on a 232 and 4 3/8 on a 262.
