Magic in removing trim
I am trying to get the door trim off my 46 Hudson coupe to change the outside door handle and can't seem to get it off without ruining the trim. I have tried a thin bladed screwdriver but it doesnt budge. Is their a magic tool or way to pry off the trim?? thanks JR new guy

Hi, I'm sure there is a special tool for this but I've always had success with a stubby pry bar, starting at the front edge of the door about a couple of inches in, ease the bar edge under the bottom of the trim, if your paint is nice (mine aint) then put a rag or something between the bend on the bar and the body. Gently twist or pry on the bar and the trim will pop off at that spot. There are three lenghts of trim retainer on each door so if by now you can't snap off the trim to about 2/3 of the way by hand repeat the prying process in the middle area of the trim. Once free slide the trim forward to free it off the leading edge of the door handle base. You then reveal a short body screw to remove, one other at an angle on the side of the door, handle should now wiggle out. If you trim retaining strips are rotted out let me know if you find a replacement as so far I've had to improvise here. Good luck.

Lubricate the trims and retainers with diesel for a day or two before trying to remove the trims. Makes life a lot easier.0

After checking with Ken Cates web-site offering a wealth of information, I purchased from Ace Hardware Red Devil paint scrapper and before starting removal, I also purchased a gallon of Kroil Oil putting it on all trim and
everything else on the car. We had great luck removing all trim, rocket panels and pot metal using Red Devil tool as mentioned in earlier thread's and Ken's web-site. Also am fortunate enough to save over 90 percent of retainers which I had sand blasted and will probably use clear coat to protect from any future rust (not in Vegas) and water that would stain car running down/through trim, besides the use of excellent tool, it takes patients.
Good Luck,
Ray0
