Splasher 8 Oil Pressure Issue on Newly Rebuilt....
Took a break from body work and got the motor running this morning. I never rebuilt a splasher motor like this before, and I am a bit concerned about the oil pressure.
I pressurized the engine using an oil primer, wetted it's appetite by priming the carb and it fired right up without a problem and it runs great. Before starting, I fabricated a fitting and hooked up an aftermarket oil pressure gauage in place of where the idiot light sensor goes, but I am really not getting anything in the way of a pressure reading, so I shut it down after running it for a minute or so. According to the manual, the oil pressure is only meant to be 3 lbs, which is really nothing, so perhaps the gauge just is not reading it, but I dont want to take any chances.
So I ask this of all you splasher 8 experts (if there are any out there).
1.) How long do you have to run a newly rebuilt splasher motor before the pressure builds up?
2.) Outside of what I have tried using a guage, what is a quick and dirty way to test the oil pressure?
3.) Am i wrong in trying to hook up the guage there? Maybe that is my problem....but I dont think so.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just loosen off the union that goes to the front of the engine, and if oil surges out of that when you start the engine, you have nothing to worry about. The oil will ppulse out rather than come out in a steady stream, as the pump oscillates. I Hope you filled the troughs before starting first time.

I pressurized the engine with an engine oiler prior to starting, but did not "pour oil in the troughs" and I am not sure what you are referring to. I am going to start the car again this weekend to test the pump and want to be sure that I do that first. Are you speaking about the area behind the valve covers and the valves? Please elaborate if you can. I would greatly appreciate it.

What Geoff is telling you is to fill the troughs that are the second piece or upper pan that your connecting rods dip into, but being as you already have started the engine and figuring your pump is working you already have done it as the only real purpose of the oil pump is to pump oil from the lower pan to the upper pan with the troughs, which is why it is called a splasher0
