54 Tredle-Vac Rebuild
I am looking for a power brake rebuild company, with a good reputation to rebuild my 54 Tredle-Vac power brake unit. I had a company in Portland, Oregon do a complete rebuild a few years ago and the unit has leaked ever since. Every gasket on the unit leaked through the heavy paper gaskets they used (not cork), they even put a paper gasket on the filler cap. The unit is so covered with brake fluid that it needs to get completely dismantled again and cleaned in order to get paint to stick to it (don't want to do it myself). I would also like to get it powder coated to keep the finish looking a little nicer should it leak again, although I plan to switch to silicone brake fluid when reinstalled which is a little more paint friendly..
Thanks for any input, John Forkner

I have had the Tredle-Vac rebuilt twice on my 54. I am still having problems with it. One company told me that it was the first year for power brakes and thats what you got.
I was wondering if there was any way of converting to a newer unit or back to regular manual brakes?
Any other advice?

Kanter has a rebuild service (Kanter.com but it is a bit pricey) and you might try these guys $200 sounds like a deal to me!:

John this is Fred Connors on Rob's nickel. One of these days I need to get my own ID on the forum so all these threads I have been posting will have the correct user name. At any rate you will need to have the Tredle-Vac housing powder coated before it is rebuilt. If it is leaking at many locations you may need to have the piston assy in the unit replaced as well. Kanter does a good job and also has the replacement piston units. All you will need to do is let them know what you want done and that you are sending them a disassembled unit with a powder coated housing that you want retured - by the way when are we going to set your engine back into your car, call me0
