Currently overhauling a '36 Terraplane Gearbox, and need a new rear bearing # 42108. Can anyone give me the website of a bearing supplier who may be able to supply this. I can get a similar new metric bearing, but the width is 2mm thinner, and the circlip is not the right dimension.

Certain people (not me) have bearing catalogs which list bearings by OD, shaft size, thickness, etc. If you could post some of the critical dimensions here, possibly some helpful person could give you a cross-reference or something. (Then again.....maybe not...)
  • Jeff, Who is the manufacturer and as Jon says, what are the critical dimensions? The number you gave may or may not be a current "good" number,or may have been superseeded by a newer number.

Geoff, my bearing suppier found a reference to "New Departure" the number being long obsolete. He found crosses for similar bearings such as 41208 and seems to be the correct series (deep groove ball with no seals or shields; snap ring). As John and Hudzilla mentioned, provide the critical dimensions of the bearing and it may be possible to track it down.
  • Geoff, Like Nick I found the bearing number obsolete. Timken bearing had no cross Reference to 42108 you can only go be dimensions at this point.

I have North West Transmission looking for the bearing, should have some information yet today.

Thank you Fred. I'm on to them right away. I can get a sort-of replacement locally, but it is too narrow, and the snap ring is different. Just makes it so much easier if you don't have to modify with shim washers. Regards, and thanks again.

I recently had 2 boxes done up and got the brgs from AABearing & Oil Seal Service in Melbourne Ph 03-9874 1660. They know how to charge - about $80ea. One of the brgs they sent me was Made in Italy RIV-1S 60009939.

Also I have a CD called Parts Interchange 1920 to 1948. It says that Fafair 205G-2, SKF 170661 & Federal FS42108 will interchange.
