Proposed By-Law Amendment: Opinions?
I wondered if there were any particular arguments against the by-law amendment proposed by the H-E-T Board of Directors (the proxy ballot is printed on the cover sheet of the latest WTN, and has to be submitted by August 1).
Seems to be fairly straightforward. Any controversy here?

Upon review of the proposed amendment, I personally see no problem with the amendment. The amendment appears to be set up to verify members' eligibility to vote by using the member's names on the ballots. This is very common among larger member-based non-profit organizations, so I don't personally see a problem. Now, I guess someone could argue that putting people's names on the ballots would allow for some election officials to see who voted for whom, but I think that is minor, if any, a problem. Others may say that this would prevent ballot stuffing.
I have been working with non-profit organizations for 20 years (and have been involved in the set-up of approximately 25 in that time) and have seen plenty of infighting, usually in smaller organizations, at the executive level. I don't really know the "powers that be" in the HET club, but I assume there is little of that politicing (I believe in giving the benift of the doubt! lol).

Its a good idea. Our union has been doing it that way for years. Tear off envelope with your name on it, then the ballot is underneath in another envelope and no one can tell who voted for whom. Much better than shads!0
