Rebuilding Hornet engine

I am rebuilding a 1952 Hornet engine which I bought from a rebuilder where the owner quit paying the shop and they sold me the engine with new parts and partially completed with new pistons cam assembled with valves and crank turned. Anyway I am completing the work and then likely will sell it with professionally rebuilt Hydramatic trans. My question for now is packing the main bearing caps with the twine recommended. Worried that the loose packing strands will allow oil leakage when assembled. What if I pack the ends with Gasket Silicone to seal off the ends. Leave the twine inside and pack the ends to keep stray fibers from allowing the oil leakage - what have other Hudson mechanics recommended? Gert

Let me know when you are ready to sell it. I know a guy in MS that is looking for a rebuilt 308.
