L8 Oil Pan Hudson 37, Deluxe Brougham

Finally got the Hudson 37 lower oil pan off and after cleaning, found holes, 4 of them. One is about a 1/4” in diameter, the other three, smaller. To me, TIG weld filler on these and NDT. Is that what most old school mechanics do these days or is there a place that sells replicas of these?

This car droves the dirt / gravel roads of Wyoming for all of its life so who knows what put these holes in the pan to begin with.

Rust is the often and sometimes the reason for holes. A lot of people have 1 or 2 spare motors just in case because no one has ever made replicas. Ask club members who live close to you for parts, or consider buying a motor. There are a lot of valuable parts on a wreck or just a motor.

Most likely acid-etched holes from combustion by-products in the oil. You can easily fix them by welding or sweating patches over the holes.
